Before discussing Christian Mysticism the concept of Mysticism itself must be understood. The whole discussion of Mysticism precludes first; belief in a non-physical existence and second; belief in a Deity; a singular all encompassing force as being the source and impetus of all that is and the guiding force of All. This unseen Force, Its principles and the understanding of them are the mysteries.
In principle, the various sects of Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism and many others exist because of the mystical tradition that brought them into being. From the aboriginal people who inhabit the jungles to the Western church going people, their mystical and religious activities are predicated upon a belief in a non-physical power that governs or at least influences their physical existence.
Ironically, the most difficult people to speak to on the subject of Christian Mysticism is Christians. In some sects of Christianity anything that is not according to the dictates of their specific church is often attributed to evil or Satan, case closed, leaving very little room for any open discussion about anything to do with Mysticism.
Also, there is no point in belaboring the letters of the words of the Bible because they should be accepted as true – without the perpetual scholarly weighing of every letter of what are essentially translations from very, very, very dead languages (except Greek). No translation can or will be absolutely true to the original. Anyone who can speak more than one language will attest that some concepts do not translate into other languages very well or at all.
The belaboring over the letters of the words vs. the spirit of the words” has brought nothing but wars, disputes, schisms, and general strife because of self appointed “experts” or authorities of every era. In spite of the best efforts made to distort it’s contents, the Bible still contains unfathomable wisdom.
In principle it can be agreed that everything that is essential and necessary is contained in the Bible, the finer details of which remain perceivable only to the “pure of heart.” But, to presume that the Bible is all that there is and can be; that it is all that God has to say and has nothing more to say is to imply that God is static and has been so ever since the council of Nicea when our current version of the Holy Bible got its final edit. This implies that we puny human beings have presumed ourselves to be more alive and vital than God. Would arrogant be a good word to describe this attitude? We who are essentially physically finite often presume to comprehend the infinite.
Furthermore, if there were so many prophets in the old testaments how could there have been none (non accepted or officially recognized) in the time since the New Testament. There have definitely been many false prophets so before accepting anyone’s work as being genuinely prophetic it is wise to cold bloodedly examine and proceed with skepticism and caution. Biblical apologetics are tedious and numerous and are by definition non-prophetic works so why waste time on them. The genuine works of the prophetic although unknown to most never really go out of print even after hundreds of years.
We believe that Paracelsus, Bardon, Eckartshausen, Lorber and Robert Fludd are excellent examples of prophets that have not been recognized as such.
Different Aspects of Mysticism that have been Vilified.
At the core of all mysticism from all cultures and beliefs there are some fundamental similarities and these lay at the core of Mysticism. At its core mysticism has to do with “mysteries.” Mysteries are a set of esoteric principles that govern existence, the personal implementation of which theoretically produce an effect in the physical world and lead to ultimate “enlightenment.” The term “enlightenment,” “becoming one” or “self spiritual realization” from the perspective of Christian Mysticism is the much talked about “spiritual rebirth” or as Christ put it, “being born again.“ This enlightenment or rebirth is by its very definition a very personal experience, which permits communion with the higher self – the rebirth (reawakening) of the Spirit or the Divinity within. These are really all the same thing. In Christian terms it means becoming one with God or becoming one with Christ or being Christ like. Along with this the normal faculties are expanded to include clairvoyance, clairaudience which are the ability to see and hear the activity in the astral world i.e. the beyond. Through these abilities one would also be able to know other peoples true intentions. Some might consider this to be an evil. Others might consider this to be an awesome responsibility.
Note: (The acceptance of Christ as the Savior is merely a prerequisite to being a Christian believer. No one can be “born again” simply because they have embodied this belief. Many who verbally embody this belief and would still gladly kill for their King, Queen or country or, act legally but immorally, among many other similarly unchristian things, while still being disciplined church goers have missed the point of Christianity. They are still asleep in their spirit and therefore not at all “born again,” in spite of the ravings of their misguided preachers.)
With this accomplishment there are no more mysteries because, as stated in the above Biblical quotation, their veil would have been lifted from their senses. Because what was previously a mystery is now consciously known – the mystery no longer exists for those reborn in spirit or the one that “walks with God.”
This “lifting of the veil” can be compared to a door opening into an entirely new awareness and consequent new abilities. To a child who can barely count it would be futile to talk about the subject of calculus. However, as the same child grows and learns first to count and then learns arithmetic, mathematics and eventually calculus, the mystery surrounding the calculus is gone, and that person can now work with the calculus and even teach others. Being understood, the “mystery” of calculus is gone, “the veil has been lifted.” Although accurate, this example is weak compared to a spiritual unfolding.
In every culture there are spiritual beliefs and traditions. In fact, there are no cultures to be found without them. All have a form of mysticism the basic ingredients of which are very similar. Some very primitive and some more mature. To discuss the similarities and differences is an academic exercise that need not be done here as it has been done exhaustively by many others.
But, as all cultures ascribe their mystical tradition to a predecessor in the form of a prophet of some sort and, as all “prophets” identify with a singular Deity or force, it is safe to assume that the source or message of all mysticism was at some point the same. Time eroded or even changed some of the initial pure luster of the initial inspiration and gave birth to the many heathenistic or pagan cults.
Note: It should be noted that the false beliefs that arose out of the true original beliefs were predicated upon the people believing the truth of the initial inspirations. In other words the false beliefs rely on the truth in the true beliefs in order to mislead people who would not think for themselves. Example: If someone is trusted because of their position of authority to tell the truth, that person can knowingly tell 9 truthful things and deliberately make a false 10th statement that sounds plausible. The odds are that the single false statement will be believed on the merit of the other 9 statements having been true. In this way corruption of the truth sets in and proceeds to devour the whole truth.
Heathendom
Make no mistake about it, even the many Christian religious sects preoccupied with their own particular ceremonies, idolatry etc., have become by definition “heathen.” They worship physical things more than the God that inspired them. Having become preoccupied with the “all importance” of their own particular dogmas and worship to the exclusion of all others, they have missed the point of Christianity and in some cases are the modern day equivalent of the Biblical Pharisees. (Definition: Pharisee – “Separatists, who by the opinion of their own godliness, despised all others.” – from the writings of Paracelsus)
According to the New Revelation the ancient priesthoods in an effort to produce wealth took the original doctrines of Adam and created out of the main attributes of God and the forces in nature many false deities. The idea being that rather than making a singular monetary offering, the people having been falsely educated to believe in multiple deities, would now make multiple offerings increasing revenues for the priesthood exponentially – as in a franchise. The personification of the mythical gods, Apollo, Mercury, Mars, Pan, Vulcan, Aphrodite and so on were borne out of this deceptive concept. Out of this paganism was born. (The many saints of the Catholic church were created for the same reasons. Out of this grew yet another form of Christian heathendom. Salvation is only through Christ, not the various church created saints and false saints.)
The only distinction to be made in Christian Mysticism over all others is that it is the most recent incarnation of the original mystical teachings and therefore less distorted – not to be confused with the dogmas of Christian churches.
The Christian churches often reflect only a very, very dim Mysticism, which can be witnessed by any common person in the monotonous, empty and repetitive ceremonies that teach nothing but subservience through ignorance and sometimes superstition. The churches give just enough information to either foster a belief to keep people coming back or to tie people to their church through the exclusive monopolizing of what are perceived as essential institutions of life such as baptism, marriage, last rights, confession, tithing, and other mandatory ceremonial obligations etc., but never enough to actually guide someone towards enlightenment or the rebirth of the spirit freeing them of their church.
The mysteries themselves are a set of universal laws that when personally understood and applied, should in time, produce a transformation. Very much like electricity when applied to a piece of simple iron will produce a magnetic field that was only latent but not apparent before hand. An intrinsic hidden quality awakens. (Same as light from a light bulb.)
The natural sciences can also be described in terms of mysticism without becoming far fetched or degenerate into superstition. There are many unseen natural forces, for instance, in our visible world in order for a chair to exist – someone has had to physically craft it from raw materials. If we can accept this, then, in order to be, the plants that grow all around us in creation must be similarly assembled with purposeful intelligence out of the ingredients of creation by beings unseen to a purely physically minded human being. At the very least, a guiding power must be acknowledged as the guiding force in this process. The concept that plants and animals are constantly and consistently being assembled in a predictable and orderly manner according to what seems like a preset blueprint; the blueprint of one species differing from that of another species, should be enough to convince most that something greater than us is acting on everything.
For someone who has had second sight (clairvoyance) from birth or acquired through rebirth or the mysteries, the activity around plants is plainly visible. Only a purely physically minded person would argue that this is fantasy, opting instead for the man made idea that it is the genetics of the plant that governs its growth. Where did the genetics come from. Will a chair will itself to make itself? If it does, why didn’t it just make a pile of wood to sit on before becoming a chair? How did it know that it wanted to be a chair? Etc. Etc. Etc.
Even though Christians will readily believe and accept that there are angelic beings doing the “Lord’s work,” and that there is spiritual activity in existence, what do they think the angelic beings do; sit around floating on clouds all day? When it is suggested that angels actually do work and have activities that are necessary to life itself, it seems inconceivable. They seem to think that all angels do is dress up in long flowing gowns and wield a sword to fight evil all day long. We who life on Earth, which is a living hell at times, do not spend all of our time fighting evil because even though it is ever-present it is not always “in our face” and therefore we can devote our time to other necessary tasks. There is an entire infinity to look after!
Out of the activities of the invisible beings of nature have come the myths and legends of the plant fairies, wood nymphs, leprechauns, centaurs, satyrs etc. Although these are not angelic beings per se, they are the lower servants of actual angelic beings into who’s charge Nature is placed. By extension they are also the servants of human beings if the human beings are at a high enough level of maturity. Humans can subdue nature through their subservience rather than by physically destroying nature as is currently being done.
Paganism
In Paganism (idol worship) it is these lower type of forces/qualities/beings that are being worshiped. The deification of natural forces is foolish to any thinking person because natural forces are subordinate to the Creator, His angelic beings and also to human beings that are mature of spirit. Why worship a lesser force when with the same effort one can worship the Most High. Pagans can not consciously move the natural forces on their own which means they actually do not understand them either. Most of the time they themselves do not know what it is that they are actually worshipping. If they only knew the damage they were doing to their souls by exposing themselves to the lower vibrations of these lesser beings – they would not do it. To know and understand that these things exist is one thing, but to actively worship them is another. It would be like worshiping a stapler, a automobile, a computer, or computer program even though these are inanimate objects.
Furthermore, the Druids which are often and wrongly associated with Paganism have actually nothing to do with Paganism. The Druid priesthood were actually very highly evolved spiritually minded human beings that actively practiced the highest mysteries. They practiced among other things Runic Kabbalah. They were in fact the Nordic keepers of the Sacred Mysteries. In order to know and use the Kabbalah the Druids had to have been acquainted with Hermetics. In other words they were true Mystics and Christian in principle. Druidism degraded into Paganism in time.
As previously mentioned, in Christian Mysticism the forces of Nature are controlled by the angelic beings. Things do not just happen! Their guidance is absolutely necessary to manage the progression, the uplifting and purification of all life towards God. Universal principles are realized through a tradition of self abnegation and inner discipline. In this context Franz Bardon and his work are very accurate, genuinely prophetic, Christian and not contradictory to the spirit of the Bible. These are the mysteries precisely and practically explained. The Bible remains incomprehensible in many ways without the understanding of the sacred mysteries. Strangely enough, the modern day Christian may consider this work to be pagan, while the modern pagan may consider it to be too monotheistic and Christian. An odd paradox among seemingly opposing groups.
Physical Matter
Physical matter is made up of the substance of the fallen beings and is called specifica over which the angelic beings preside. Hence, this substance has life and intelligence and by virtue of this it is predictable and controllable while remaining subordinate. The reason for the subordinate level of this substance is that it might experience and learn humility. This very concept will sound strange to anyone with a “Sunday school attitude.” Volumes can be written on this topic. This is a topic seldom addressed but is of great importance and of great significance, relevance and interest in Christian Mysticism. It is this physical matter itself that provokes and tempts (Sin) because it is the substance of Lucifer.
In many ways modern Christian Worship is not much better than heathendom as they often have more reverence for their particular religious sect, edifice, ceremony or religious trinkets than the God they purport to worship by them. The very idea of worshiping in an edifice made “holy” by unclean human beings who presume godliness is in itself heathenistic. How can a building supposedly blessed by imperfect humans capture, force or compel the presence of God within it. Those who congregate therein believing this are responsible for their being duped. Although God is in the presence in any group of two who beseech Him – an organized congregation is not absolutely necessary.
The Only Church Recognized by God
The only church recognized by God in the New Revelation is the one in one’s own heart. It provides the only sanctuary where a person can commune with God/Christ privately, intimately, meaningfully and personally. This, and this only is what makes Christianity Christian through the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ- not the institutions. The institutions of Christianity can only present an external model gravitating on the maturity of the individual, but can not control or mold the purity of one’s heart. This is the duty of a Christian and the purpose of Christian Mysticism. If you can struggle successfully against these monumental odds you earn your way to becoming a child of God. Because the mysteries, as a set of universal principles, laws or rules can be quantified (described) (See Franz Bardon, Jakob Lorber, Karl von Eckartshausen, Paracelsus), the purity of the mystical practices from one belief system to another can be compared qualitatively by what they yield. Out of these differences come the different cultures. Cultures are the extension of the core beliefs of their people or of what they worship. (cult simply means to worship) If they worship money, nature, clothing, building, materialism, debauchery, thievery, the love of filth, the love of war, sex, music, love or God it is predominant in the culture. There can be cultures within cultures and all cultures clearly differ. They differ qualitatively but not necessarily quantitatively. For instance, houses or shelters exist in all cultures, they are built out of essentially the same materials wood, stone, brick etc, but they are built distinctly differently with entirely different character reflecting cultural differences. The houses themselves are quantitative their designs are qualitative.
When a predominant belief born out of indigenous spiritual philosophies (mysticism) manifests materially on a large scale it creates the various cultures and societies of the world. Some have achieved greater degrees of measurable maturity while others have not. All be it material, some have achieved more, others less. This manifestation is an out-growth of their core beliefs. Therefore because cultures reflect their spiritual beliefs externally they can be compared. To argue whether one culture is better than another is not the issue. The question is one of spiritual maturity. We in the West have set a materially high standard that is being adopted by others as they mature. Even thoughthe Christian world is far from perfect, many like what it has to offer materially. It would seem that many in the rest of the world would rather live by the standards set by the Christian world when compared to their own. However, the present Christian world does not live by a Christian standard any longer. It is more and more being dominated by the old testament of laws and materialism not the New Testament of Love.
Magic and Sorcery
The mysteries have a quantitative and a qualitative component and effect. To put it differently the quantitative aspect is mystic, the qualitative aspect is magic – to the western mind. Do not assume that by magic is meant a simple slight of hand deception or direct evil. Magic is simply the successful implementation of something mystic – a mystery – with a loving, selfless intent for the good of all. A manifest miracle is magic, that is to say, a law of God consciously implemented for the sake of love. Should the intent be selfish the Magic becomes Sorcery. Sorcery is therefore unchristian. The universal principles themselves are at all times neutral and universal, our free will being either for or against God or our fellow man determines whether the outcome is a blessing or a curse to humanity. Many things fall into this category -witness some of our technology.
Christian Mysticism was brought into the world by Jesus Christ – instead of a prophet. The difference being that a prophet is a human being dedicated, subordinate and willfully subservient to the Deity – Christ is the Wisdom of the Deity itself incarnate. Therefore Christian mysticism is directly from God and is the purest form of mysticism because it is at once the most direct, the simplest and the most personally demanding. Christian Mysticism is also universal as is very clear in the work of Franz Bardon, Jakob Lorber, Karl von Eckartshausen, and Paracelsus.
The True Christianity is to be found in Christian Mysticism. It is in the Bible but without the works of Franz Bardon, Jakob Lorber and Emanuel Swedenborg you’ll have a very hard time identifying it for what it is.
